A Different Stripe

Oh man, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth on purpose - just been sick. Thursday I stayed home, went back to bed, and didn't get up until 4 pm; Friday had only a couple extra awake-hours. As you can imagine, this isn't exactly conducive to getting much accomplished. Please know that though I haven't been around visiting much, I have been wallowing in your kindnesses with much gratitude.

grey surplice-front pullover: Reitman's, thrifted
belt: thrifted
jean capris: Garage (~8-9 years ago), last worn here
shoes: Fidji

The crushing fatigue freaks me out, but poor Beary is in worse shape than me - soon we will be comparing bedsores.

sweater: Nurture, Dillard's, last worn here

necklace: Tradewinds (local shop), last worn here

This outfit (from last Friday) is a more casual look than I prefer, but I got over having to be practical by deploying new shoes. Yay!

I hadn't tried any footwear by Fidji before, and after eyeing these up for quite a while at the sale price, found that I couldn't let a further 20% off coupon expire. I'm very happy with them: immediately comfortable! Lots of compliments as well.

My "reduced shopping" is a pretty informal situation with plenty of exemptions - hats are 100% allowed, awesome shoes and exceptional items are carefully considered on a case-by-case basis, and there are some very specific things I'm looking for. Also keeping things in check is being too busy to go anywhere besides work and essential errands.

Even before I took to my bed with the plague, I was desperately behind on so many things both at work and at home, and together with being downhearted over missing our girl MJ and dreading decorating for xmas (though I have skipped it entirely two years in a row already), hiding under the covers remains ever so much more appealing than springing into action. Alas, I am (kind of) a grown-up.

At least that means I can also bribe myself with wish-list dresses.
Off I go!

  1. Sorry to hear that you have been so ill. Boy, comparing bed sores? That sounds like the height of romance!

So glad that your "restricted shopping" has exceptions. I think everything I see is an exception. I just seem to be magnetized to everything!

    Hope you're better soon.

    Cheers from England,
    Rosemary from

  2. Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear both you and Beary have been ill, On top of the sadness following the departure of dear MJ. It's a shock, I think, to feel debilitated and weak when we are so used to rushing around being busy and having a reasonable quantity of energy and motivation.
That you have managed to post at all is testament to your staying power, and that you can look cool and casual and accessorised with your usual aplomb is nothing short of a miracle! Truly gorgeous shoes too. Is it inappropriate to mention that I have been back to have a second, and third, peek at your quite magnificent rear? That is one fine behind!
There is no law which says you have to decorate for Christmas, I never did when I lived on my own and I only do it now under pressure from the kids!
Take care, Amber, hope you are fully recovered before too long. Xxxxx

  3. Ah, rats for the illness, and for both of you! When Sandy and I had the flu at the same time, we got *very* impatient with each other, so I am sending you soothing and sweet thoughts for your beloved. You manage to look fabulous, natch, in your cuffed jeans and new shoes. xoxoxox

  4. Hope you'll be feeling better soon. There seems to be a lot of "the dreaded lurgy" going around.

The shoes are wonderful - they really dress up the jeans! And the cardigan is great, too. Nice to wrap yourself in and get all cozy with a cup of tea (and a dash of brandy - it's good for you).

    Take care.

  5. I love that cardie, looks cosy plus glam: perfect. Take it easy and get well soon!

  6. Sorry you both have been struck down by the pre-Christmas plague! Who says you have to decorate? I just slap a cool wreath I found at a Goodwill decades ago on my front door and I'm done. You can make a pair of cropped jeans and an oversized cardi look very cool, and those are some freaking fabulous shoes. I've never heard of that brand before. Love the colour combo, and they really look great with your grey sox/tights.

  7. I'm so sorry you've been sick, and hope you're back up to full steam soon. I love the play of all the different striped elements in this outfit. And those shoes are so fun!

  8. Hope you feel better and have more energy. We need you! The necklace is cute.

  9. Yay! The anxiously awaited shoes! They're fantastic. I knew they would be.

I'm so sorry you and Beary are under the weather. The DH and I are too. I'm the worse off in our cold-situation since the DH had a three day head start. I'm pathetically without voice having to write things down or squawk out answers. Thank God I am done with classes because I am ready to climb under my blanket for the remainder of the weekend.

  10. Always the best shoes in the bloggosphere, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
    love them

  11. Lovely layers of stripes in all sizes, Amber. Sick or not, you still look enchanting. And the shoes did it, brought it all together, don't you think? Have a nice break from all the busyness and who cares about decorating! Just take care.

  12. I love this outfit, especially the shoes. They remind me of Fluevogs - probably because of the colour and the straps.

I like to wear my jeans rolled up like that too. Better to show off the socks/hose and shoes.

  13. Love those shoes and love how you styled this! and that necklace is great--reminds me of my bedspread!

  14. I hope you're both feeling better soon! Love the Fidji shoes - I bought a pair of booties by them for my niece. Very nice quality.

  15. I'm sorry you and Beary have been under the weather. I know I would have perked up considerably just by wearing those glorious Fidji shoes. I love how you do jeans, so cool yet comfortable.

My boss came to work with THE FLU last week. To say his colleagues were not pleased is kind of an understatement.

I would never decorate for Christmas, and once when forced by the promise that the family would help take down the tree (fake, I don't believe in killing new ones for a few weeks in the living room), tried to out wait them. Yep, still had to take it down myself in April. I'm mainly just here for the holiday punch these days ;P

  16. Hope you are on the mend!! There are some nasty creeping cruds going around!!
I love your casual outfit! And those shoes are gorgeous!

  17. So sorry to hear that both you and Beary are sick; those shoes provide the perfect medicine. Hope that you both feel better soon and are healing from the loss of your dear MJ.

There are so many beautiful details to this outfit that it takes casual to an entirely new level. Take care. Sometimes the holidays feel better with less effort.

  18. Those shoes are so cool! You always wear such fun, unique footwear.

I hope you feel better soon!

  19. Poos to being sick.I suppose at this time of year it can be expected.
Fab new shoes, and o MY your bum is awesome in those jeans! XXX

  20. Writing this from my own sick bed where I have been bed ridden all day - I wish you and Breary a speedy recovery. Being ill in bed sucks! Great shoes and love them with the turned up denim! The necklace is wonderful too.
