Wonder Twin Powers

Thank you everyone for your kind well-wishings - I am so relieved to be feeling better! Hot weather has also returned, and my office is suddenly less Arctic, so I'm glad to be getting in a few more wears of summery things. Though I can't believe that "no white shoes after Labour Day" is an actual thing that people care about, can you?

dress: Jones New York
belt: brand forgotten, Beyond the Rack
shoes: Sam Edelman Kendall

A well-made dress always feels like such a treat to me - the extra hooks and eyes, bra-strap holder snaps, tethers to the lining to prevent it flying up over my head, and even pockets. All these little ways of saying, "I'm looking out for you." Thank you, dress, you are a good friend. And super-floofy besides.

grey flower pin: a gift from my mother, Dillard's
necklace: a gift from my mother, vintage
scarf: Gabii's, TX, near border to Progreso
pleather jacket: Coffee Shop, My Habit

I've come across two other fashion bloggers with these same shoes - the wonderful Stacey of Gray Skies, and Jessica of What I Wore. Over at Fashion for Giants, I also lately admired Gracey's belt; it totally sproinged my matchy-brain and made me think of this dress.

watch: Swiss Army Cavalry, beloved gift (1994)+ usual wrist wear
Together with being on the mend, I'm so happy to have my usual watch restored to me from being fixed - it's another one of those precious early-mid-'90's items I've worn near-daily since. Besides wedding rings, are there any things you wear, any "constants" which you don't feel like yourself without?

*** I have great news to announce: the spectacular Melanie of Bag and a Beret has generously bestowed a Liebster Award on me! Congrats to my co-recipients, and stay tuned for a reasonable hand-drawn facsimile of reign-fulfilment! ***

  1. That dress is so so amazing! You're totally right about the little details that go into a well made dress. I like what you wrote about them.

I'm an exceedingly basic person. The only things I wear every single day are my wedding band and my glasses. I wish I had more things that felt like an everyday piece, but I don't have anything that quite fits 'me'.

    1. Thank you, Megan! Those details also bring to mind my grandmother, who was a seamstress and made so many clothes for me and my siblings when we were small.

There is freedom in not having items you feel kind of naked without!

  2. Congratulations on the award. I faithfully wear my watch and one of several different pair of eyeglasses. The profile of this dress is just beautiful and the vintage necklace gifted by your mother is lovely.

What cute cute shoes! Definitely is something I would wear if I could.
You have included the perfect accessories too. Happy weekend to you!

    1. Thank you, Joni! I mean to try a few photo locations in the barn, but this one is working well. All I had to do was sweep the floor! I struggle with time to keep up, let alone develop. I may have to move back to the office or set up in the house once I lose the light and the weather gets too wintry.

Hope you're enjoying your weekend as well!

  4. Gorgeous outfit. I love that wide belt. I've admired those shoes on other people's blogs and admire them just as much here. Very unique.

I hope you're over your summer illness too.

    1. Thanks, Megan! Your taste in shoes is especially awesome! The belt has these unfortunate fringed ends which I think about trimming off, but they do stay tucked in.

I am feeling much better, almost there!

I LOVE this dress, it's so elegant and crisp and beautiful, and the fact that it is also well-made makes me like it even more. And oh those shoes are wonderful!
I am never without my watch. The rest of the jewellery changes, but the watch stays the same. And the contact lenses! xxxxx

  13. Oh, wow that dress is a stunner! :) absolutely crazy about the stripes and the flooootiness :) I knew I had seen those shoes before, you are rocking them like the rest :)

  14. Oooo, I would definitely feel very well taken care of by that dress too! It is truly a stunner; love the colours and pattern, the full skirt, everything. I do wish I could wear platforms like those but I would either a) fall off and sprain something, or b)pass out from the pain. You are pretty as a picture ( a very pretty picture!).

    1. Thank you, Shelley! Given that I'm significantly klutzy, it's a risk!

On the plus side, I wore combat boots or Dr. Martens pretty exclusively for a solid 15-year period, so feel very lucky to have not "used up" my feet. I do intentionally vary heel-heights and limit how frequently I go super-high.

  15. I feel naked without my watch (I call it my $30 Zellers watch, even though this iteration is from Sears). I also always wear a ring on my middle finger - a big one that extends from knuckle to knuckle. And I have earrings and a toe ring that never come off, but I feel like they don't count since I don't ever do anything with them. They just are.

    1. Thanks for weighing in, Rachel! I like how you describe the almost-disappearing-ness of your constant items - I feel that way about my earrings, and so rarely thought about this stuff prior to blogging.

  16. Aren't those shoes great?! I wear them all the time, and I know I'm going to be heartbroken someday when they fall apart. I love the dress you paired them with.

Also - holy crap, your hair is amazing. I've always wanted to shave my head, and your hairstyle makes me want to do it even more.

    1. Hi Stacey!!! My shoe-twin and one of my FAVOURITE-favourite fashion bloggers - thank you so much for dropping by and commenting!

I've got a post about my hair in mind - once I had to cut it short, this particular 'do took about 6 months to evolve. Cutting it myself means having more money for shoes. :)

Well, wonder twin powers activate, because girl, you are form of a pinup in that sexy dress! I love this outfit! Drama!

    1. Aww, Sheila, you are not!! I don't have any kind of rhythm yet in terms of creating / submitting posts and adding comments and responses, and I'm so not efficient, plus life happens - far be it from me to have any kind of expectation or judgement. I love that you read and comment at all, since I was such a lurker-fan of yours for months before jumping in!

This dress makes me happy. A full skirt completely rocks my world :)
