Party Pants

Got to the office early today. I can't tell y'all how much I am appreciating your comments and feedback! It makes me feel all festive and party-like, so I wore the appropriate pants. They are also comfy as hell and have room for big eating. I totally forgive them for not having pockets.

scarf: Lupita's, Harlingen TX
shirt: Smart Set
party pants: David Paul New York, thrifted, $6
shoes: Fluevog Mini Gorgeous

under-eye bags: DIY
jacket: bluepower, Cranberrie Lane (local shop)

Man, so far this blog is generating a pile for my alterations lady: I think my jacket needs taking in at the waist to be a little less boxy.
necklace: a gift from my mother

I've had the basics of this outfit (necklace, pants, shirt, shoes) since about 2002. The shirt is a favourite, even though it has wilted a bit.

watch: Stuhrling Tuskegee Skylancer
This scarf magically goes with almost everything, which freaks me out.

Hey, does anyone know where the boundary is between "scarf" and "shawl"? Or have a good song to play while we figure it out?

Cheers, my friends.

  1. Gorgeous necklace and I love the plaid pants. I think I consider something somewhat shorter and wider a "shawl" and longer and skinnier a "scarf", but it may just be in the draping.

    1. I appreciate that, Megan - I wondered if I was missing a particular definition that other people just seem to "know!"

  2. Fun pants. And pretty necklace. I have no clue about scarf/shawl; listen to Megan, she's the smart one here.

I'm pretty sure Megan Mae is smarter than all of us!

  4. Wow, I'm back the same day. You may be addictive. I agree with Megan's determination of scarf vs shawl, although sometimes it's definitely a draw. The question is, does it function well for you? Then call it whatever you like.

I like the fabrics and colors here. I like the paint on the wall and the detail on the shirt cuff. Very cool.

    1. Aw, thanks Jean!

In an actually fun twist of "other duties as assigned," I've done a fair bit of wall-colour consultation and selection at my workplace. My office colour is called "Blue Nile" but the paint brand escapes me at the moment. I love it, myself!

I'm so glad you're talking about wedge sneakers, I'm jumping in over by you.

  6. I think I got my undereye bags at the same place you did! I want a refund! Fabulous pants and I love the necklace gift from your mother. I like how the owl seems to be sitting on your head.

    1. Yes, I have never quite been satisfied with the quality of mine either! What is with that?

I would love to walk around all day with an owl oracle - excellent idea! Both owl and turtle have great wisdom to share.

  7. Everyone needs to have at least one pair of Party Pants in their closet! I agree with Megan's definition of "shawl vs scarf" too. Gorgeous necklace....

  9. Easy, it's a shawl if it's used to cover you or function in an outerwear type of role. Scarves are more ornamental, and aren't meant to cover more than neck/head. Of course there can be overlap. Maybe we need a Venn diagram!

Love the big font - thank you!!

Those are totally BCR pants - oh, Woody...I pined for you so...

    1. Aha! Yet more light shed on the subject, thanks! A lot of what I have would be shawls then, though as a victim of constant temperature fluctuation, I wear them as scarves or shawls or part of each at the same time. No wonder I was confused.

Glad I'm becoming an easier read - that confirmation is awesome! My big accomplishment today was noticing the "post title" box.

I dedicate a play of Shang-A-Lang to you, Sheila!

  10. Woo-eee!

Yes, the post title is important, lol. Also, big pictures. People love the big pictures - if you're in Chrome, select "Extra large". It'll be a little jarring to you, but it's much easier to see the details (and don't we all just love the details?).

    1. LOL I know! I really appreciate your help - I was saying to Ally how I thought I'd have way more time to figure out the photography and Blogger itself, bit by bit, before company arrived, but I'm so stoked that people are here.

  11. Doesn't she though! I knew right from the beginning that she'd need her own label on the blog. :)
